Candle Guide

Burning Safety

Burning Candles is a responsibility! When in doubt, put it out!

There are always warning labels on my candles, but what do they really mean?
Keep wick trimmed to 1/4 of an inch and centered in the candle. Keeping the wick trimmed will decrease smoking and soot. (Highly scented candles will produce soot.) 1/4 of an inch is the optimal length to get a perfect burn each and every time!

Occasionally a wick can drift off center which can cause a candle to burn unevenly. This can lead to dripping candles and can even crack a jar candle!
Finger Nail Clippers make great wick trimmers! They are easy to get down into tall jars.

Keep Out of..

Keep Out of Drafts: A draft such as an air conditioning vent or an open window can speed up burn time and produce smoke from the candles. It can also cause your candles to burn unevenly and cause pillar candles to drip.

Keep wax free of matches, wick trimmings and debris. These things can catch fire and produce a major fire hazard!

Keep out of reach of children and pets. Liquid or molten wax is very HOT and will burn the skin. It can also cause fire to hair and/or clothes. For the safety of your loved ones, Please Keep Out of Reach!

Pillar Candles

Did you know that your candles have a memory?
When burning a pillar for the first time, it is important to give it a “memory burn”. You should burn the candle for 1 hour for each inch of its diameter. Example: a candle 3″ in diameter should be burned for three hours to establish its “memory”.

This will allow your pillar to establish a full melt pool (Increasing the scent throw) and leave a shell about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick, so no wax can drip over the sides. This helps you to enjoy your entire candle while saving you from that dreaded dripping candle as well!

What will happen if I don’t give my candle a proper “memory Burn”?
If your pillar candle is burned for a short period of time, it will “Core Burn” down the center and a good scent throw cannot be achieved. If your pillar candle is burned for longer than the recommended time, it may burn the outer edges and drip on to your furniture.

Votive Candles

Our votives are designed to burn for 12 to 15 hours if burned properly and in an appropriate votive holder. If not burned in an appropriate holder, votives will completely liquefy in about 1/2 hour, leaving a big puddle of molted wax!

Jar or Container Candles

These need a “memory burn” like the pillar candles. Burn them for 1 hour for each inch of their diameter. Example: a jar candle 3″ in diameter should be burned for three hours to establish its “memory”. This allows your jar candle to establish a full melt pool increasing the scent throw. This will also utilize all wax in the jar, leaving you with just an empty jar and no left over wax! When your candle has burned completely, our jars make cute storage containers!
